Jay W This is absolutely an under-rated gem of a movie. I can't blame people for not seeing it. At time of this review, it is not streaming on any platform and the only physical release is a Region-3 Blu-Ray. I had to get a region free Blu-Ray Player just to watch this thing. But with all that fuss, it was worth it.Before watching the film, I had read the manga that this film is based on. This film is very faithful to the source and improves on it in a few key scenes. In fact, my favorite scene of the movie was one that was not in the book. Despite knowing how the story was going to play out, I still absolutely loved watching the story unfold. It is a beautiful story, with great animation, music that has made it into my regular playlist and all with top notch voice acting. What keeps this back from being an all-time great anime film would be the characters, or, to be more specific, the main character. The protagonist of this story is merely the audience surrogate character. He is basically a blank slate so people watching the film can project themselves into the situation. Robbie Draymond does a great job, as always, but the character doesn't have much to work with. He's not awful, but it does bring the movie down.Life is too short to be wasting time reading this review. Do whatever you need to do in order to find this film and watch it. I want you to see this film.
